West Wight is the region in the northwest, despite being nearly as depopulated as the Back of the Wight it has a lot of history and fascinating places to visit.

The West Wight has plenty of forests including Parkhurst Forest. The area is subject to drainage by the West Yar and the Newtown Estuary, which is an SSSI. Large Towns include Yarmouth, Totland and Cowes. Much of the land is owned by the National Trust.

Newtown used to be a bustling port and the island's capital, however silting and the Frogs caused it's decline.
